Smoking and Pregnancy

There is no safe level of smoking during pregnancy and any number of cigarettes can have a devastating effect on the health of both you and your baby.

However if you can  stop smoking within the first three months of  your pregnancy, the risks to the health of you and your baby will be reduced.  Remember it will be a great benefit if you quit at any stage of your pregnancy. It’s never too late to quit!

  • More likely to have a successful pregnancy
  • Less likely to miscarry the baby

For Baby

  • Your baby is more likely to grow and develop normally
  • Your baby will have a better chance of surviving first year of life
    Your baby is less likely to be delivered too early
  • Your baby is less likely to have complications at delivery
  • Your baby is less likely to develop chest infections, asthma and ear problems including
    glue ear & possibly hearing loss
  • Your baby is less likely to become a smoker later on in life
